Private Work
Haakon Brouwer joined the Amsterdam practice of Dam & Partners Architecten immediately after completing his studies at Delft University of Technology in 2003. He served as project architect for both the Zalmhaven High-Rise in Rotterdam and the European Patent Office in Rijswijk, designed in collaboration with Ateliers Jean Nouvel.
Haakon is actively involved in the Council on Vertical Urbanism, among other roles as a member of the Europe Scientific and Advisory Group. He lectures both nationally and internationally and teaches on the design of timber buildings at the Faculty of Architecture of TUDelft.
Drawing and sketching are central to his daily practice — as a vehicle for thinking as much as for communication. He has lectured on hand drawing and is working on an article on condensed narratives and expanded storytelling in communicating architecture through storyboarding and drawing. This website contains some of his research, illustrations and studies. Have a look at damenpartners.com for his professional work.
An avid cellist, he was selected for the preparatory cello program at the Utrecht Conservatory prior to his studies in Delft. Haakon plays in and illustrates for multiple ensembles.
When they grow up, he and journalist Pieter-Bas van Wiechen plan to publish a graphic novel.
